Wi-Spy: Five Years of Leading the Way
This month marks the five year anniversary of Wi-Spy and Chanalyzer. A few days ago I was looking back at screenshots of Chanalyzer 1.0 (a.k.a. Wi-Spy Viewer) and laughed at how basic it was. The data resolution was so bad the screenshots look like they are from an Atari console game But even that very first version of our software contained some significant innovations in PC-based spectrum analysis that have since been adopted industry-wide.… Read More

Mega Bloks + Dry Erase Marker = Flexible Roadmap
MetaGeek follows a lot of the Agile principles; we like to keep things simple and flexible, and like true geeks everywhere we love Legos… so why not use Legos for a roadmap?
Here’s our current roadmap (bricks are flipped around to hide the labels)
Color = Development Group
Blue is Software, Red is Firmware, Green is Hardware.
Length = R&D Effort
The length of each block represents the R&D effort involved and is somewhat analogous to a chunk of story points in SCRUM.… Read More

Wi-Fi Planning with RF3D
Add RF3D WifiPlanner to your Wi-Fi arsenal from MetaGeek’s online store and provide professional Wi-Fi implementation estimates.
Wi-Fi planning software isn’t new, but an affordable solution independent from Wi-Fi vendors is. You can start developing Wi-Fi implementations at $299 with RF3D WifiPlanner 2 Lite.
RF3D correctly estimate any scenario you would like by adjusting the 3D elements of any object. Define the thickness of the floors and the area between them.… Read More

Device Finder Roots Out Interfering Devices
A lot of the time passively avoiding interference is all that is needed to make your WLAN run better. Just move to a channel that is less affected by RF from Wi-Fi, cordless phones, etc., and your interference-caused throughput and connectivity problems go away. But sometimes — as is becoming more and more apparent in the 2.4 GHz band — there are not enough open channels to go around and no amount of avoidance will be sufficient to make your network interference free.… Read More

Chanalyzer Lite 2 Released
MetaGeek just released the latest version of Chanalyzer Lite. Wi-Spy 2.4i owners should be very happy because this version allows users to browse historical data up to an hour long with a Wi-Spy 2.4i. There are a couple things off the top of my head that I think our Wi-Spy 2.4i customers will be pleasantly surprised by:
Pause, Play, Fast Forward – Chanalyzer Lite has the same instant replay capabilities as that fancy DVR in your living room.… Read More

Wi-Fi Pilot has Arrived!
Wi-Fi Pilot
Wi-Fi Pilot and Wireshark are a match made in heaven. If you don’t have the technical know-how to quickly filter through gigabytes worth of packet capture in a matter of seconds. The difference is so drastic it almost deserves a Billy Mays infomercial.
Trust me, this is not a watered down version of WireShark – quite the opposite actually.… Read More

Chanalyzer Pro and Chanalyzer 4 get new features
New for Chanalyzer Pro is the ability to create your own device classifiers. Meaning, if you come across a device you can capture it’s signature and Chanalyzer Pro will classify it when you encounter it again. And better yet, click ‘Submit to Classifier Signature Library’ while making the classifier, and the signature will be sent to MetaGeek and added to our library of known devices.… Read More

Chanalyzer 4 & Pro get Multiple Device Support
Multiple device support added in to the latest updates of Chanalyzer 4 and Chanalyzer Pro make it possible to run two or more Wi-Spy DBx or 2.4x at the same time. This allows for viewing multiple swaths of spectrum at the same time from two or more Wi-Spys, be it zoomed-in or full-band in either 2.4 or 5 GHz. Plus, spectrum data from each Wi-Spy unit is collected and saved into one recording.… Read More

Report Builder Improved!
We wanted to highlight some of the cool things you can do in Chanalyzer Pro’s Report Builder. I have written all of this in the Report Builder so you can see how easy it is to create a professional Wi-Fi Spectrum Analysis Report.
Chanalyzer now has: text formatting, report continuation, and image blocks. It is now incredibly easy to build a professional spectrum analysis report using a mix of recordings and live captures.… Read More
