requested features:
Just purchased your Wi-Spy 2.4 and have tried it with chanalyzer 2.1.7 and 3.0. a very cool product and has given me much insight in to my GSM radio. I do have a few suggestions for some features I found I would like to have.
1: some way to stop and restart the loging. what I mean is a way to flush the buffer without having to exit the program (or program preferences- show channel 14) which flushes the buffer as well.
2: data the topographical view is almost invisible with the current display scheme. if I could set the minimum display level for the Y axis (dBm amplitude) and throw away data points under say -110 dBm for my office, I may be able to see the shapes better / briter.
3: allow the user to specify a sub range of frequencies of interest. If wi-spy 2.4 is told to scan a smaller set of frequencies then the number of data points per second withing the subrange will increase the overall resolution of this smaller area like unchecking the "show channel 14" does now.
from what I have read, it looks as though your hardware can support all of these features. Overall, a very nice product.
Thanks for choosing Wi-Spy, and welcome to the forum! We really appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback on our products. I'll respond to each of your points here, and we'll keep then in mind as we work on future versions of Chanalyzer.
1) Clear the buffer - We've had a fair number of requests to bring back this feature (it was available in Chanalyzer 2.0), and we will be bringing it back in Chanalyzer 3.0. In the meantime, you can achieve the same result by closing and re-opening the USB tab.
2) Topo View visibility - Chanalyzer already does figure out where the noise floor is attempts to calculate the Topo View color scale based only on actual transmissions. It sounds like we might need to adjust that algorithm. If you could send us a recording of your office environment, that would be a helpful to us as we work to improve the Topo View.
3) Adjustable frequency range - We have started working on that feature and it will be coming in a future release of the Chanalyzer software.
Thanks again for your feedback. Please continue to let us know how we can improve Wi-Spy and Chanalyzer to better meet your needs.
