I just installed my new wi-spy 2.4i and everything works fine in 2D but the 3D does not display anything.

I am running XP Pro with all up to date patches.

I have checked all my versions of .net and have 1.1, 2.0, 3.0 and the latest .net Framework 3.5 with SP1 installed.

Any suggestions.

DirectX 9.0c is required for the 3D view.  You will need to install the DirectX runtime from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=2DA43D38-DB71-4...

It appears there are two separate issues with the 3D.

  • 3D view is enabled, but the display is empty.
  • 3D view never starts, and continues to state, "DirectX 3D is not installed or not working properly. If you would like the 3D view, please install dxwebsetup.exe from microsoft.com"

If your machine has

Wed, 07/01/2009 - 06:46
aheighton-bhs

If your machine has 'NetSupport' or 'Ranger' Remote Control software installed, your Direct3D may have been disabled. To check this open RegEdit and go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
\SYSTEM
\CurrentControlSet
\Control
\GraphicsDrivers
\DCI

Look for 'Timeout' - It should be 0x00000007. If it's 0x00000000, your Direct3D has been disabled.

You'd need to change that to 7 to re-enable Direct3D support. It's a problem we have on our machines quite frequently.

If you aren't confident changing registry settings on your machine you should consult a suitably experienced IT Professional to make the changes for you.

Always back up your machine before making changes to your system settings!

Has anyone got the 3D to work in Windows Pro SP3? Perhaps if we state which systems it works with, and which it doesn't, that will help narrow down the issue, which seems to be unknown at this point.

To me it seems like a driver issue. I have a Dell Inspiron 700m laptop, and DirectX works fine, but the 3D View is blank. At first I thought I had a USB conflict, so I uninstalled all my USB drivers and reinstalled, but had the same issue. Anyone have this working?

Hi JL,

The only way that we have re-created this problem is when we had the wrong direct 3D version installed. It has to do with some earlier versions of 9.0c and the managed framework not supporting meshes. When you installed the new version of the direct 3D runtime, did you re-enable the 3D view under the view menu? When you do re-enable, you will have to restart the application.

I hope this helps.

Still doesn't display any 3D data. Here's a shortened dxdiag output.

Is there any version of Chanalyzer Lite that can be used to grab debug information (command line switch or something)? It's annoying because I have friends that I'd like to show this too so they can get their own Wi-Spy 2.4i, it doesn't give a good impression for you when I tell them one of the main features is broken and that others are having the same problem...

Just to add, maybe this is relevant but I do not have a Wi-Fi network and the laptop has no W-Fi adapter. I'm using Wi-Spy 2.4i to look for other things in the 2.4GHz band so I can eventually choose a Wi-Fi channel thats as immune to interference as possible.

My 2nd test was on a PC with no wifi, no issues. So no, wifi is not needed to display the 3D graph. Some other features may use it, but no the 3D.

When you installed it, did you install for "everyone" or "current user". I have no idea if it would make any difference, but I always selected everyone (which, from memory is not the default).

Hello,

In your post, you mentioned that Chanalyzer Lite  is not displaying any 3D data. Can you see the 3D grid, or is the 3D view not showing up at all? Can you send a screen shot? We know that you are frustrated, and we are trying to get this resolved as quickly as possible. There is something obviously different about your specific configuration that we haven't been able to track down, but we will figure it out.

Hi Guys-  I apologize to

brian's picture

Hi Guys-  I apologize to those of you that are having problems with the 3D view.  We are working on a fix.  Both symptoms (3D view disabled, and 3D view tab open, but blank) are due to Chanalyzer Lite not being able to open or interact with the Direct3D device.  There are a number of things that you can try to resolve this issue:

1) As you know, DirectX 9.0c is required for the 3D view.  However, apparently there are actually 2 versions of 9.0c, one which supports the Mesh construct, and one which doesn't.  To make sure that you have the latest and greatest version of 9.0c, please install the DirectX runtime from Microsoft.

2) Make sure your graphics drivers are up-to-date.  Chanalyzer Lite requires hardware DirectX support to work.  If you are using the standard VGA driver or an older version of your graphics card driver, updating may help.

3) Do not run other applications that use DirectX at the same time you plan to use the 3D view in Chanalyzer Lite.  This includes diagnostic utilities, which may open the DirectX device, creating a conflict for Chanalyzer Lite.

4) As Alex Heighton points out, some applications may disable DirectX.  Check your registry settings per Alex's post in this thread.

5) If none of these steps help, please email support at metageek dot net and let us know:

a) what version of Windows (including service pack)

b) what architecture (x86 or x64)

c) mode of failure (3D tab closed or blank)

d) any other information you think may be useful, such as dxdiag dumps.

We will work with you directly to troubleshoot, implement and test a new version of Chanalyzer Lite that addresses this problem.  Thank you for your patience and willingness to help us get this issue resolved!

I also have the 3d problem, I can see the grid but no other info.
This is a Acer laptop with the Intel 945 chipset, updated drivers, DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
All the other Microsoft updates are done, including .Net

Any and all DirectX installs or updates does nothing including the links above from Microsoft, including the webupdater, simply put, it says it's at the latest and greatest, sono update required.

I hope this gives you some info to get this fixed.
