Default I needed something I could

I needed something I could connect to an antenna for alignment purposes. I bought a (cheap) USB 802.11b/g device.

Its own utility shows pretty much instantaneous values for signal strength, but both inSSIDer and Network Stumbler have the same problem (not updating signal strength.

The tool that comes with the device has a "Refresh" button.
When this is clicked, inSSIDer updates its values too.

    Default That is because InSSIDer

That is because InSSIDer isn't telling the driver to update, but the other software is. We are aware of the bug and are working on it.

Default If it helps -- I have found

If it helps -- I have found that if I have the device connected to an AP there are no level changes.

If I disconnect, the level is updated very frequently.

    Trent,
I'm not sure I get how to modify the network scan rate. How would you do that in inSSIDer 2.0? Thanks!

You can't change the rate in 2.0, it will scan at either 1 second or how long the adapter takes to scan, whichever is longer.

So if your WiFi adapter takes 2 seconds to scan, it will take 2 seconds, however it takes 780ms to scan it will scan at 1 second.

    Does that make sense?

It makes perfect sense, and thanks for the quick reply.

Sort of OT, but have you seen this other post?

I am working on a project to test antennas, and inSSIDer seems to be a perfect candidate to retrieve in an easy way information about the signal being received. Unfortunately I find that the software is a little bit too "closed", in the sense that I don't have control over many options, and I can't retrieve the data in an easy way. Any suggestion about this other issue?

    Thanks a lot

    Default useless as it works

I am having trouble with interference so I need to measure signal strengths of the wifi around me. All I get is a flat line for my AP as I walk around my house. All my neighbors AP graphs fluctuate just fine. I know my AP is not perfectly as strong in front of the house as it is behind the house as I walk around the outside.

There is no way for me to see where the best place for my wifi is. Obviously I am not the only one.

I have tried disconnecting from the AP and still a flat line. I have another AP for cameras and it graphs just fine.

I read all 3 pages in this thread and none of the suggestions helped. I bought high gain antennas that cost more than the router and still have trouble.
