Bu-353 GPS

Purchased your recommended GPS from your Web page. Installed without issue and confirmed working with the BU-353 GPSinfo utility.

BU-353 works perfectly with my DeLorme mapping program, but not with inSSIDer.

When trying to enable in inSSIDer nothing happens, in fact the "ENABLE" check mark disappears after clicking "OK". If I select the wrong COM port, the check mark remains and I'm told "data not detected on COM 3" in the lower right corner. When selecting the correct COM port, 4, nothing happens and "GPS disabled" remains in the lower right corner.

Any suggestions?

Could you try this version: http://tyler.anairo.com/dl.php?id=4.1.1.2.8.0519gpsd(if it says invalid archive, re-download it) and post the output of the console?

It's a GPS debug version with an editable serial port box.

I think you will find that the "com port" id that windows passes to insider is not valid. The demo/debug version tyler has asked you to down load should help as it lets you type in the com port correctly.

I was not able to copy the info from the console. inSSIDer did enable and then disable COM port 4, used a different USB port, and confirmed in Device Manager.

Thanks for the feedback. I am the one who posted that the GPS is compatible with inSSIDer. And I personally tested it on every windows operating system. So if this is our issue, I would like to fix it.

I was only using the GlobalSat driver, I was not using the software provided. I also had no other com ports in use.

I know that someone else on the forum (and a few other people via our chat help) were having issues because they were trying to run inSSIDer and the GPS program provided. inSSIDer won't be able to access the GPS unless the other program is closed. But for the time being, can you try uninstalling the software and try just the driver?

Good morning,

Don't know what happened, but when I fired up my laptop this morning, hit inSSIDer, the GPS was working. Its working with both the standard and debug versions. All is good.

Will try the maps later today.

You nailed the problem, all is good. As soon as I opened GPSinfo info the the GPS in inSSIDer stopped working. Closing GPSinfo didn't help, had to reboot.

I've noticed the same 'problem' and fix. It seems that once GPS-Info is started, it won't release the GPS unless you reboot. Since I just got my BU-353 today, I haven't found a work around yet.

I do have a question. Does anyone know how to tell if WAAS is enabled or not?

Another problem I'm having is that when I was using the BU-353 on my VISTA laptop, I kept getting a 'blue screen' On my XP laptop it seems fine. I think somebody else had the same problem but I didn't see a solution.

Anyway, I'll fiddle with stuff some more and maybe start a new thread with unanswered problems.
